誰かがこれに出くわした場合、問題は cxfreeze が卵でうまく機能しないことのように思われました。卵からコードを抽出し (名前を zip に変更して解凍)、コードの Python27\Lib\site-packages\socketpool などを作成し、ビルドを実行すると、問題なく動作するように見えました。
