SQL データベースで学生番号が重複しないようにする必要があります。そのためにphpコードを挿入する場所がわかりません。

一意のレコードを作成できると思われる列のいくつかに一意を追加してから、

$result = mysql_query("INSERT INTO products(name, studnum, password)     VALUES('$name','$studname', '$password') ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE studnum=VALUES(studnum)");

レコードが更新され、重複エラーが表示されなくなります。
