Linux Mint 17 を使用しています。postgres を apt-get でインストールしました。postgres ユーザー アカウントを取得しました。作成する必要はありませんでした。次に、postgres としてログインし、次の手順に従いました。
$ initdb -D /usr/local/pgsql/data

次に、次の 2 つのコマンドを発行しました。
$ pg_ctl start -D /usr/local/pgsql/data -Z coordinator -l logfile
$ pg_ctl start -D /usr/local/pgsql/data -Z datanode -l logfile
応答がありませんでした。
