XAMPPの最新のアップデートをダウンロードしましたが、これは私の古い設定をかなり台無しにしました。ある時点でPHPで基本的なmail（）を送信できましたが、更新すると停止しました。

私は少し調べて、誰もがZendまたはPHPMailerを推奨しました。PHPMailerを試しましたが、coundが応答しないというエラーが返されました。

php.iniをいじって、ソケットのタイムアウトを60から120に増やしました。それが機能しなかったので、自分自身にテストメールを送信してみました。

メールサーバーがないようです。または、ポート25で実行されているローカルメールサーバーがありますか？;-)しかし、XAMPPは-という名前のメールサーバーを持ってMercuryきます-だから...それを始めて楽しんでください;-)。
