NotifyIconが表示されないもう1つの理由は、トレイアプリケーションが実行されていないときにWindowsエクスプローラーが昇格された特権で実行されている場合です（もちろんUACを備えたシステムでのみ）。

これは、explorer.exeがクラッシュまたは強制終了され、ユーザーが昇格したタスクマネージャーから手動で再起動した場合に発生する可能性があります。

NotifyIconコントロールは、内部でShell_NotifyIconネイティブメソッドを使用しますが、戻り値をチェックしません。Shell_NotifyIconがFALSEを返した場合、通知されることはありません。

Shell_NotifyIconでWinDbgを使用してブレークポイントを設定する必要があり、GetLastErrorによってERROR_ACCESS_DENIEDが発生しました。そのため、権限の問題があり、エクスプローラーの昇格が再開されたことが原因である可能性があることに気付きました。さらなるテストにより、この仮定が確認されました。

ただし、これはかなりまれなケースです。
